Texas Tech offensive coordinator Dick Winder nearly burst out laughing when told USC Coach John Robinson had compared the style of Winder’s offense to that of the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’d say we’re more similar to Irons Junior High,” he said. “We just kind of draw ‘em up on the sideline.”

“Byron, he’s really religious. Sometimes he sings or hums religious songs in the huddle. He doesn’t even listen to the radio.”

USC defensive coordinator Keith Burns, on Lethridge:

“We listed Zebbie’s strengths and weaknesses while we were deciding how to defend against him. His strengths filled about a page. The weaknesses were about two lines.

“He made a great play against TCU late in the first half. He scrambled, ran from sideline to sideline, finally found a guy in the end zone and hit him with a pass. We can’t let him do that to us, we have to keep him in the pocket.”
