Michael Todd Lopez, an Arizona man arrested on suspicion of robbing two Thousand Oaks banks, is expected to be charged by federal authorities Monday.

Lopez, 44, was captured after a brief foot chase by sheriff’s deputies Thursday. The deputies, including several plainclothes detectives, had been alerted by witnesses who saw a packet of red dye explode in Lopez’s hands shortly after he left the Wells Fargo Bank on Thousand Oaks Boulevard, authorities said.

FBI Agent Larry Dick said money taken from both banks was recovered from Lopez’s car and from an area behind a Bank of A. Levy branch where he had fled.

Lopez told authorities he lives in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., but previously lived in Moorpark.

Lopez was being held in Ventura County Jail late Friday in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is expected to be transferred Monday to a detention center in Los Angeles.
