Three Ventura County residents remained hospitalized Saturday after they were injured in two separate car accidents.

In one accident, Gregory Schweigert, 26, of Oxnard, was driving 85 to 90 m.p.h. southbound on Victoria Avenue in Ventura about 10:20 p.m. Friday when his vehicle veered off the road and overturned several times, the California Highway Patrol said.

Schweigert, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown 100 feet from the car, authorities said. He broke his neck and several ribs, and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center where he was in critical condition Saturday, a nursing supervisor said.

Authorities said Schweigert was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

In the other accident, near Somis, Randall R. Beckler, 31, of Ventura and Jerry Mink, 51, of Camarillo were taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital after their vehicles collided about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.

According to authorities, Beckler was driving on Somis Road, just north of Las Posas Road, when he swerved to avoid something on the road, causing his pickup truck to fishtail into the opposing lane.

As Beckler’s truck came to rest on the opposite side of the road, he was hit by Mink, the CHP said.

Both men were in serious condition Saturday, a nursing supervisor said.
