An Oxnard man was struck by a bullet in a drive-by shooting in Port Hueneme, police said Monday.

Pedro Zuniga, 18, was shot in the left leg about 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Halyard Street, police said.

Zuniga was taken by friends to St. John’s Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said, adding that Zuniga refused to provide any information on the shooting.

Authorities said they believe the shooting was gang related. Residents in the area were reluctant to assist the investigators for fear of retaliation, police said.

The incident Sunday was the second gang-related shooting in Port Hueneme this year, police said. On Jan. 2, a Port Hueneme resident was shot in the hip and arm. The victim, Moses Albillar, was treated and released.

The Port Hueneme Crime Stoppers program is asking anyone who can identify the assailant in either incident to call 986-TALK. The caller can remain anonymous, and if the information leads to a criminal charge being filed, the caller will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000, authorities said.
