A 74-year-old woman was killed Tuesday morning when her car veered sharply into the path of a bus entering the freeway in Moorpark, authorities said.

Lillian Ruth Roeder of Moorpark died of massive head and chest injuries just before 9 a.m. at Simi Valley Hospital, said Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens.

The accident occurred at 8:15 a.m. on the Princeton Avenue on-ramp to the Simi Valley Freeway. Roeder was entering the freeway just ahead of the bus when she suddenly turned to the left in front of the bus, authorities said.

The bus driver, Jose Gonzalez, 45, of Oxnard, was unable to avoid hitting Roeder’s car, authorities said. The bus is owned by the Antelope Valley Bus Co. and is contracted to Ventura County as part of the VISTA bus service. It was carrying no passengers at the time.

California Highway Patrol officials said Roeder may have had a heart attack just before swerving in front of the bus. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning.
