Accident Snarls Freeway Traffic

A one-car accident on the Ventura Freeway at the peak of rush hour Tuesday backed up traffic for miles, but resulted in only minor injuries, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Dispatcher Claude Ball said the 5:47 p.m. accident on the northbound side of the freeway near the Conejo Grade weigh station closed one lane of the freeway for an hour. More lanes were temporarily blocked by emergency vehicles, he said.

“It was backing up several miles at least,” Ball said.

County firefighters helped extricate a motorist trapped in the car. The motorist’s name was not immediately available.
