A robber held up a Home Savings bank branch Wednesday and escaped after he falsely claimed to have a bomb.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arson and explosives team was sent to the bank in the 5600 block of Kanan Road at Thousand Oaks Boulevard after the 12:30 p.m. robbery and evacuated the entire shopping center where the bank was situated, Deputy Benita Hinojos said.

The silver container the robber had left on the bank counter, which he said was a bomb, contained no explosives, Hinojos said.
