The Long Beach State women’s basketball team forced 37 turnovers to beat visiting Cal State Northridge, 85-67, Wednesday in its first game in The Pyramid.
Kim Barfield had 26 points and 15 rebounds and Melissa Gower added 15 points and 15 rebounds for the 49ers (8-6) in the nonconference game.

In nonconference men’s tennis:
UC Irvine 7, Loyola Marymount 0--Fred Bach and David Chang swept at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, for host UC Irvine (2-0). Sophomore Marc Tardif, ranked 28th in the nation, injured his shoulder and did not play singles. He paired with junior Julian Foxon to win at No. 2 doubles, 8-0.
