OXNARD / VENTURA : Probation Ordered in Voter Fraud Case

Two Ventura County women were placed on probation Friday for filling out fraudulent voter-registration cards while working for a Republican Assembly candidate’s campaign.

As part of her probation, Lesa Marie Krueger, 28, of Oxnard was ordered to undergo 30 days of treatment in a mental health program. Angela Robinson-Adams of Ventura must complete 300 hours of community service as a condition of her probation.

The women were hired last fall to register Republican voters by a campaign consultant working for the Brooks Firestone for Assembly Committee. Neither Firestone nor the consulting firm was implicated in the scam, prosecutors said.

Working independently of each other, the women submitted dozens of fraudulent registrations, prosecutors said. Robinson-Adams registered names she obtained from newspaper obituaries, and Krueger registered people without their consent, according to court documents.

Both women pleaded guilty to felony voter-fraud charges.

The women were paid $2 for every Republican they registered, plus a bonus of $20 for every 25 GOP voter registered in a 72-hour period. Krueger was ordered to pay $200 restitution to the Firestone campaign committee, and Robinson-Adams was ordered to pay $90.

Robinson-Adams said she submitted the fraudulent voter registrations to buy school books and purchase a pair of boots for her husband. A probation officer concluded Krueger was despondent over financial problems and her decision to give her newborn child up for adoption.
