THOUSAND OAKS : Update Scheduled on City Quake Aid
The 103 homeowners in Thousand Oaks who have applied for city earthquake assistance will get an update at the City Council meeting Tuesday on how close they are to receiving the long-anticipated grants.
“It has been a very long and frustrating process,” Mayor Jaime Zukowski said.
The city has more than $2 million in earthquake relief money, but none of it has been distributed because of federal and state low-income restrictions on most of the funds.
“We are trying to repeal the restrictions,” Zukowski said.
At the meeting, Olav E. Hassel, the city’s housing services manager, is scheduled to update the council on the lobbying effort, Zukowski said.
The council approved giving the grants to homeowners who have exhausted all other avenues of relief, Zukowski said, adding that many are waiting for the city grant to start rebuilding.
Hassel was initially scheduled to issue his report at the last council meeting. But the council did not get to the agenda item until 2 a.m., when council members voted to table the matter until their next meeting.
