DANA POINT : City Council Changes Policy on End Times of Its Meetings

Share

Under a new policy adopted by the City Council, a majority of the council must agree to halt meetings before all agenda items have been considered.

Before the policy change, council meetings automatically would be stopped at 11 p.m. unless four of the five council members were in favor of continuing.

Councilwoman Karen Lloreda, who proposed the change, said she hopes the new policy will make council meetings run more efficiently.

“The reason (for the change) was that so many of the items on the agenda were not being addressed,” Lloreda said. “They were getting held over two, three times. And I wanted to make sure we could handle the city business” in a timely manner, she said.

City Manager Stephen B. Julian described the new policy as “just a different means to manage the council agenda.”

“From the staff’s perspective, if the council wants to meet until 2 in the morning, we’ll meet until 2 in the morning,” Julian said.
