Ruling May Provide Keating With Loophole: Financier Charles Keating’s chances of overturning his securities convictions appeared to improve when the California Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors must prove a known falsehood in the sale of securities. Keating is serving a 10-year sentence for aiding in the sale of securities through false statements.
