SOCCER : Manual Arts Nips Venice for 3rd Straight

Mauricio Lopez nailed a penalty shot in the second half to give Manual Arts a 2-1 Coastal Conference victory over Venice on Thursday at Manual Arts.
The victory highlighted a schedule shortened by severe storms that made some fields unplayable.
The Toilers’ Gennaro Guererro notched the game’s first goal off a rebound, but the Gondoliers got the equalizer just before the half.
Manual Arts (5-3-2) has won three straight games.

Belmont 4, Bravo 0--Belmont won its 11th consecutive game, a Northern Conference victory on Friday.
The Sentinels got a goal apiece from Hector Alvarado, Jose Salmeron, Jose Huarez and Eric Hernandez.

Lincoln 2, Marshall 0--The Tigers defeated Marshall in a Northern Conference game at Lincoln on Thursday. Melvin Hernandez and Carlos Hernandez scored the goals and backup goaltender Miguel Salas scored his first shutout. Lincoln is 5-4. The Barristers are 2-6-2.

Dorsey 4, Washington 0--Don goalkeeper Francisco Figeroa led Dorsey (4-2-1) to a Southern Pacific win at Washington on Thursday. Jorge Coreas scored twice.
Team captain Marvin Gonzalez nailed a penalty kick and Kirby Lopez added a goal.
Dorsey improves to 4-2-1.

Montebello 1, Bell Gardens 0--The Oilers upset the Lancers (4-1, 11-4-2) in an Almont League matchup at Montebello on Thursday. Bell Gardens had plenty of opportunities to score but could not finish on any of their chances. The Oilers scored after a mistake by the Lancers’ goalkeeper.
