Ire at Bid to End Mandated Quake Aid

Share

It didn’t take new Insurance Commissioner Charles Quackenbush (“Insurance ‘De-Linkage’ Sought,” Jan. 5) long to reveal his agenda. Moments after his swearing-in ceremony, he asked the Legislature to repeal the law requiring insurance companies to offer earthquake insurance with homeowners policies.

Charlie, who now will be the people’s champion in their ongoing battle with the profit-driven, careless, no-risk-taking insurance companies of California? If private insurers do not feel comfortable about offering earthquake insurance at reasonable rates and refuse to do so, the state of California must step in to provide such insurance to its citizens.
