Fee Waivers Sought for Flood Victims
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday directed the county’s chief administrative officer to investigate whether to allow victims of the recent floods to receive building permit fee waivers to repair damage to businesses and homes.
Residents would also receive business tax waivers or extensions for flooded businesses and waivers for flood-related debris-removal charges and other fees, county officials said.
The CAO will report back to the supervisors in two weeks, officials said.
The aid package was proposed by Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, whose district, which includes Malibu and most of the western San Fernando Valley, suffered some of the heaviest damage in the county.
The county expects to be reimbursed for the flood-related fee waivers by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said Yaroslavsky spokesman Joel Bellman.
The flood caused more than $600 million worth of damage in the county.
