LOS ANGELES : Parks Panel Loosens Rules for Golf Course Contracts

Share

City parks commissioners approved a plan this week that will allow one concessionaire for the first time to run the driving ranges and pro shops at five of the city’s largest golf courses.

Officials drafted the proposal as part of Mayor Richard Riordan’s effort to generate more revenue for the cash-poor city. But the contracts could still be split up among several concessionaires, officials said.

Pending any changes, parks officials will begin seeking bids for driving range and pro shop contracts at Hansen Dam in Sunland, Rancho Park on the Westside, and Encino, Balboa and Woodley in the Sepulveda Basin.

Now, the Recreation and Parks Department contracts out the driving range and pro shop concessions as a package at each golf course.

The Recreation and Parks Commission approved a draft request for proposals that will allow one company to bid for all driving ranges, only one pro shop or any combination of contracts.

The mayor and City Atty. James Hahn must still review the decision before the department can begin soliciting bids.
