CAMARILLO : Car Covers Offered Prior to Spraying

Share

East Camarillo residents living in the Medfly eradication zone can get a free plastic car cover today at Constitution Park in anticipation of Tuesday’s planned aerial spraying of the pesticide malathion.

The covers will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park, which is adjacent to Camarillo City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive, by members of the Ventura County Fruitfly Action Cooperative Taskforce, spokeswoman Elisabeth Brokaw said.

Agriculture officials recommend that adults, children and pets stay indoors in the 16-square-mile eradication zone during the spraying and that cars that cannot be parked in garages be protected by plastic covers.

Cooperative Medfly Project officials said that barring inclement weather, three helicopters will lift off from Camarillo Airport at 9 p.m. for an application that lasts about four hours.

The spraying will be delayed if winds exceed 10 m.p.h. or if there is a 50% or greater chance of rain within 24 hours of the application.
