VENTURA : Woman, 34, Killed in Crash Into Wall
A 34-year-old Ventura woman was killed early Sunday when she lost control of her car and it struck a concrete wall north of Ventura, the California Highway Patrol said.
Vonnie Sue Crist was driving southbound on Ventura Avenue just north of Los Cabos Lane about 2:30 a.m. when she drove her car into the oncoming lane, slammed into a barrier and overturned, investigators said.
She was thrown from the car and killed instantly, the CHP said. The car was not equipped with seat belts, according to investigators.
Senior Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis said Crist died from multiple chest and abdominal injuries. “She’d only been living here a couple of weeks, so she might have been unfamiliar with the roads,” he said.
Crist worked at the Ojai Valley Inn as an assistant restaurant manager, Zentzis said. Her nearest relatives live in Oregon, he said.
