COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Six-Run Second Inning Sparks SCC Past Chapman in Baseball
Five singles and four stolen bases fueled a six-run second inning for Southern California College, which defeated Chapman, 8-6, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday.
Shortstop Jason Albrand had three hits and scored three runs for the Vanguards. Starting pitcher Jeff Beckley improved his record to 1-1 and Bryce Primm picked up his first save.
Southern California College is 1-4. Chapman is 0-3.
In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:
Biola 85, Concordia 84--James Williams had 23 points, including the winning basket with five seconds remaining, for Biola (8-16, 2-7).
Corey Reeder had 33 points (8 of 9 free throws) and Justin McIntee had 16 points and seven rebounds for Biola. Craig Martin and Pharoh Jones had 26 points each for Concordia (21-5, 5-4). Martin had three three-pointers. Biola outrebounded Concordia 34-20, 17-7 on the offensive side.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:
Biola 89, Concordia 80 (OT)--Sonia Schwenk scored 21 points and Lynell Johnson had 15 in an overtime victory for Biola (12-13, 3-4). Kristin Brooken had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kara Stephens scored 21 points for Concordia (15-10, 5-3).
In nonconference women’s tennis:
San Diego State 9, UC Irvine 0--Megan Coakley defeated UC Irvine’s Tiffany Licuanan, 6-0, 6-1, to lead San Diego State. Antje Fritschi had the top Anteater performance, losing at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 7-5, to Christy Propstra.
