BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Ventura Wins Opener on Balk in 9th Inning

Ventura College pinch-runner Javier Rios scored on a balk in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Pirates a 6-5 victory over Compton in a season-opener Tuesday at Ventura.
Brandon Knight pitched a complete game for the Pirates (1-0), striking out 12 and walking three.
Victor Moreno went five for five with two runs batted in for Ventura.
Jason Rodriguez struck out three and walked five in 6 1/3 innings for the Tartars (0-5).

Former El Camino Real High left-hander Randy Wolf picked up his first collegiate victory, pitching seven hitless innings for Pepperdine in the Waves’ 6-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona at Pepperdine.
Wolf did not allow a run. He walked two and struck out seven.
In Wolf’s only other appearance at Pepperdine, he pitched three scoreless, hitless innings against USC on Friday.
Wolf, two-time City Section 4-A player of the year and The Times’ Valley player of the year last season, was drafted in the 25th round by the Dodgers last summer, but he turned down a professional contract to play at Pepperdine.
