LOS ALAMITOS : Student Who Carried Knife Is Expelled

Share

A special-education student at Los Alamitos High School who took a 6-inch hunting knife to school in December has been expelled, Los Alamitos Unified School District officials said this week.

District authorities provided few details about the incident. Assistant Supt. David Hatton said the boy, who had never been in trouble before, carried the knife in his backpack and showed it to classmates.

Hatton said that the mentally disabled student will be transferred to a special study program in another school district, and his transportation will be paid for by the Los Alamitos district.

The boy will be eligible to return to Los Alamitos High in September, Hatton said.

Another student who was expelled last year was denied admission to McAuliffe Middle School because of recurring behavior problems, according to Hatton.

He said the student was expelled for carrying a knife to school.

Students found carrying knives, guns or other deadly weapons are expelled following a school board hearing under the school district’s “zero tolerance” policy against weapons and drugs.
