A Culver City resident and airport plan manager for the Los Angeles Department of Airports has been appointed to the state Mining and Geology Board, Gov. Pete Wilson said.

Sheila Murphy has been with the Department of Airports since November, and was a senior urban planner for Gruen Associates for three years before that, Wilson said. She also was a landscape architect and project manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Murphy earned a bachelor’s degree in design and a master’s in biogeology from UCLA.

The state Mining and Geology Board is part of the Department of Conservation. It serves as a policy and appeals board for the state’s interest in mining, geology and geologic hazards.
