COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton Gets Two Victories in Arizona Baseball Tournament

Dan Bergmann’s single drove in Jerry Weitzman in the bottom of the sixth to give Fullerton a 2-1 victory against Glendale (Ariz.) Friday at the Mesa (Ariz.) Tournament.

Bergmann finished the day with two runs batted in. In an earlier game, the Hornets defeated Cochise (Ariz.), 3-1. Andy Tellez had three runs batted in and two doubles. Fullerton is 6-0.

In the Cypress Tournament:

Cypress 9, Mt. San Jacinto 0; Cypress 7, Antelope Valley 4--Jeff Pickler and Brooks Morris had three hits each in the second game for Cypress (7-0-1). Morris also drove in three runs. In the first game, Pickler, Corey Dean-Yeager, Israel Gonzalez and Keith Ginter each had two hits for the Chargers.

Golden West 14, Victor Valley 3; Pima (Ariz.) 11, Golden West 10 (8, darkness)--In two games, Garrett Vitale went six for 10 with five runs batted in and Dustin Martin was four for nine with four RBIs and four runs scored.

In the first game, Brian Sailor pitched a complete game for Golden West (2-4), allowing five hits, three runs and striking out eight for his first collegiate victory.

In the Southwestern Apache Classic Tournament:

Orange Coast 2, Grossmont 0--Mark Gardner allowed four hits and struck out eight in his first complete game and shutout of the season. Adam Cancellieri was three for four.

San Diego State JV 3, Orange Coast 2--Forest Long was three for three with a double and a run scored in the loss for Orange Coast (3-4).

In nonconference golf:

Riverside 377, Cypress 378--Brian Ricketts of Cypress (0-1) was medalist with a three-under-par 69 at Moreno Valley Ranch.

In pool play of the Gavilan women’s softball tournament:

Saddleback 3, Monterey Peninsula 1; Saddleback 7, Skyline 3--Becky Polk won both games and seven different players accounted for seven hits in the second game for Saddleback (2-0).
