PREP ROUNDUP : Orange Wins Marathon for Spot in Playoffs
The Orange boys’ basketball team, which had to win three games in 20 hours, was up to the task, clinching third place in the Century League and a playoff berth with a 47-43 victory over Foothill Saturday at Canyon High.
“It took a huge mental and physical commitment to get through three games in a 24-hour period,” Orange Coach Mark Holman said.
The Panthers (16-9, 4-6), who beat El Modena Friday night to set up Saturday’s four-team playoff, defeated Villa Park, 47-37, in the morning game. Foothill (14-14, 4-6) then beat El Modena, 59-57, on Dan Almquist’s jumper at the buzzer to set up the final.
The Panthers were perfect at the line, making eight consecutive free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
Orange shot 80% (53-66) from the line the last three games.
