THOUSAND OAKS : City Acts to Upgrade Police Department

Share

As part of a growing effort to improve its police department, the Thousand Oaks City Council has voted to spend nearly $1 million for community policing and the salaries of two new officers over four years.

Federal grants will cover up to $150,000 of the cost of the “COPS AHEAD” program, with the city finding the rest from either its social services budget or general fund reserves.

The two new police officers are expected to begin work in July as community resource officers. They will focus on specific residential and business neighborhood problems.

The program is expected to cost $937,000: $215,000 for fiscal year 1995-1996, $200,000 for 1996-1997, $240,000 for 1997-1998 and $282,000 for 1998-1999.
