Bettor Wins Big in Arkansas With $818,693.40 Jackpot
Myabya edged Smooth Tripper by a head Wednesday to win the $22,000 feature race at Oaklawn Park, giving jockey Garrett Gomez his 1,000th career victory, but the biggest winner was in the crowd.
One bettor correctly selected the winners of the third through eighth races (6-1-2-2-5-2) to claim an $818,693.40 jackpot in the Classix.
It’s the largest payoff in the 10 years Oaklawn has offered the wager. The previous high was on Feb. 17, 1987, a payoff of $351,022.60.
There were 96 tickets with five of six winners. Those tickets were worth $1,717.20.
Oaklawn spokesman Terry Wallace said the ticket was purchased at Oaklawn, but the holder hadn’t yet cashed it by early Wednesday evening. The bettor will have six months from the end of the meeting to cash the ticket.
