NORTHRIDGE : Quake-Savvy Students Send $1,025 Check to Kobe
Quake-savvy Northridge students who sold recycled cans and held a bake sale to show solidarity with pupils in Kobe presented a $1,025.85 check Thursday to the Japanese consul general in Los Angeles.
The consul general will deliver the money raised by the Lawrence Middle School students to the Kobe City Board of Education.
The middle school, which is near the epicenter of the Northridge earthquake, got help from local Japanese businesses last year and the students wanted to show their gratitude, said spokeswoman Brenda Winter.
