A young man attending a party in Moorpark was wounded in a drive-by shooting Friday night, police and witnesses said.
The shooting occurred about 6:15 p.m. when a Volkswagen Rabbit slowed in front of a home at 380 Moorpark Ave. The shooter fired from the car, police said. Witnesses reported hearing one gunshot.
"It sounded like a firecracker," said Margaret Caldera, owner of a nearby beauty salon. "There was a party there with homeboys."
She said in the past few weeks the normally quiet commercial neighborhood has been plagued with cars slowing and then speeding up quickly late at night.
"Lately, it has been real spooky," she said.
Ventura County sheriff's deputies did not release the victim's name or age, but said he was in stable condition at Simi Valley Hospital. No further details were released, and no arrests were made.
