Whale Watching

Share

* The Feb. 8 article about the migrating Pacific gray whale did not mention one of the best viewing points along the local coast. That spot is Point Vicente Interpretive Center on the Palos Verdes Peninsula near the Point Vicente Lighthouse.

Whale watchers document the sighting of gray whales, along with notations of their behavior. The observations begin Dec. 1 and continue until early May. Last year 2,022 whales were seen during the south and north migrations. So far this year 279 whales have observed, somewhat fewer than seen by this date last year.

The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge for parking, picnicking or viewing. There is a small charge for admission to the museum. We who observe the whales are happy to point out the whales and answer questions.
