Pedestrian, Son Hit and Pinned by Car; Boy, 5, Dies
A 5-year-old boy was killed Sunday after he and his mother were pinned against a concrete embankment by a car spinning out of control, police said.
Pablo Corina of Sun Valley was walking with his mother near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Sheldon Street about 9:15 a.m. when a car southbound on Laurel Canyon collided with another vehicle heading east on Sheldon, Sgt. Fred Meck said.
The first car was knocked off the street and over the curb, dragging the boy and his mother 15 feet before pinning them against an embankment under the Golden State Freeway, Meck said. The boy was taken by helicopter to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, where he died an hour later, according to a hospital nursing supervisor.
His mother was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center with a broken leg.
Police said the driver of the car was not arrested, but an investigation is continuing.
