The angriest team remaining in the section boys’ soccer playoffs has to be Santa Margarita, which finished the regular season 20-1-3 but was unseeded in the Division III draw. Santa Margarita was periodically ranked No. 1 in Orange County and finished the season top-ranked.
The Eagles, led by all-county forward Seth George, who recently signed with UCLA, took out their frustration on Laguna Beach in the first round, defeating the Artists, 3-0. The Eagles’ next victim could be Riverside Arlington (16-3-5) in the second round.

Thursday’s Division I quarterfinal matchup between Simi Valley Royal and Edison is a rematch of last year’s first-round upset. Unseeded Edison, a wild-card team from the Sunset League, beat then No. 1-seeded Royal, 1-0.
This year, Edison (15-5-4) is a wild-card team again and Royal is seeded fourth.
“I’m sure they’re going to want to do to us what we did to them,” Edison Coach Trent Marcus said. “But we’re going to try and take each game as it comes.”
Edison is led by Marcus’ brother, Todd, who has scored a goal in each of the Chargers’ first two playoff games and leads the team with 14 goals.
