COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Hitters Come Through

Rancho Santiago used two big innings to beat host San Diego City, 10-5, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday.

Ryan Fullerton had a two-run triple in the three-run first inning and Jamie Estrada had a run-scoring triple in a three-run seventh inning for Rancho Santiago (12-2).

Starting pitcher Matt Montgomery allowed four runs and four hits, striking out three in 5 2/3 innings, but Josh Egan (1-1) earned the victory, allowing one run and three hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Brain Carlson had four hits and scored twice, and Estrada added a double and a run scored for the Dons.

In another nonconference baseball game:

San Diego Mesa 10, Saddleback 7--Sam Voita was three for five with five RBI and he hit his third home run of the year for the Gauchos (7-5), which fell behind, 10-3, after six innings.

In Mission Conference golf:

Rancho Santiago 382, Orange Coast 384, Cuyamaca 384, Golden West 439--Rancho Santiago (1-2) was led by Mike Miller’s round of two-over 74 at Rancho San Diego Golf Course. Rick Redding shot a 72 to lead second-place Orange Coast (0-1).

In nonconference softball:

Los Angeles Valley 2, Irvine Valley 1--Mina Vo doubled and scored in the first for Irvine Valley (1-5), which lost on an RBI single by Arleen Lozano in the bottom of the seventh.

Saddleback 19, Grossmont 4--Stacy Lumley’s first-inning grand slam paced the host Gauchos (7-1). Lumley finished three for three with six RBI.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Palomar 1--Golden West rebounded from a first-game loss to post a 1-15, 15-10, 15-9, 15-10 victory in it conference opener. Jeff Carlucci had 16 kills and Shadd Walker 14 kills, nine digs and three aces for the Rustlers (3-0, 1-0).

San Diego Mesa 3, Orange Coast 1--Jason Crone had 23 kills for Orange Coast (3-1, 0-1). Joe Mullen had 18 for San Diego Mesa (1-0, 1-0).
