COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Airball Turns Out OK in Oregon’s Upset Victory

Zack Sellers grabbed an airball by teammate Kenya Wilkins and put it back for the winning basket as Oregon ended a six-game losing streak at Arizona State by beating the No. 15 Sun Devils, 73-72, Thursday night at Tempe, Ariz.

Zellers’ offensive rebound and shot capped a dramatic comeback as the Ducks, 16-6 overall and 8-5 in the Pacific 10 Conference, rallied from a 63-49 deficit in the last 10:19.

Ron Riley scored 21 points and Mario Bennett had 19 and 11 rebounds for the Sun Devils (19-7, 9-5). Bennett had 12 points in the second half.

Orlando Williams and Jeff Potter each scored 12 points for Oregon. Henry Madden had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Damon Runyon scored nine of his 11 points in the second half.

No. 13 Arizona 83, Oregon State 69--Damon Stoudamire scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats (20-6, 10-4) over the Beavers (6-16, 3-10) in a Pac-10 game at Tucson.

Brent Barry led Oregon State with 25 points, eight steals and seven rebounds.

Temple 72, No. 5 Massachusetts 63-- Freshman Johnny Miller scored 25 points, including seven three-pointers, as the Owls defeated the Minutemen in an Atlantic 10 game at Philadelphia.

The Owls (16-8, 9-5) lost a 15-point first-half lead, but were able to take control in the second half as Miller, whose previous best was 21 points against West Virginia, made five three-pointers in the second half.

Center Marcus Camby had 25 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks for Massachusetts (20-4, 10-3).

Antoine Gillespie made a 12-foot jumper with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to lift Texas El Paso (17-7, 11-4) to a 73-71 victory over San Diego State (8-15, 3-12) in a Western Athletic Conference game at El Paso. . . . Robbie Reid and Russell Larson each scored 18 points as Brigham Young (22-7, 12-4) defeated Fresno State (12-12, 6-9), 81-59, in a WAC game at Provo, Utah. . . . Jerome Robinson scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds as South Florida (14-9, 4-6) defeated Tulane (14-9, 4-6), 97-64, in a Metro Conference game at Tampa, Fla. . . . Canaan Chatman scored 21 points and Portland (18-7, 9-4) held on for a 63-61 victory over San Diego (10-14, 5-8) in a West Coast Conference game at Portland.
