Commission for Children Urged
Faced with dwindling revenues and increased demands for services, Ventura County officials are constantly searching for ways to maximize their resources.
That’s one of the main reasons for the proposed formation of the Children and Family Commission for Ventura County.
Officials said the commission would be able to better coordinate services provided by various government agencies, such as child care, after-school programs, tutoring and job counseling. They said the commission would be able to improve government efficiency by determining which programs might be shared, expanded or dropped.
The commission could also help set policy on family issues because it would be made up of 11 elected county, city and school officials.
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider approving the formation of the commission and appointing Supervisors Judy Mikels and Susan Lacey to sit on the panel.
