From Associated Press

Brian Noonan, realizing New York had been struggling offensively, scored three goals, his last into an empty net, and led the Rangers to a 5-2 victory over the Hartford Whalers on Wednesday night at Hartford, Conn.

“We haven’t gotten a lot of scoring,” Noonan said. “Guys like myself and some other guys, we realize we have to step it up and start scoring.”

Noonan, who came into the game with only three goals in 20 games, also had an assist.

Hartford played without starting goalie Sean Burke, listed as day to day because of a groin strain.
