CYPRESS : City to Buy $15,000 Speed-Monitor Trailer
- Share via
Motorists in the city soon will be getting a visual reminder of how they’re obeying--or disobeying--speed limits.
The City Council this week unanimously voted to buy a speed-monitoring radar trailer. Its radar measures the velocity of a passing vehicle and immediately flashes its speed while another simultaneously tells the legal speed. The trailer, placed at the side of the street, does not require staffing.
The police and public works departments, in a jointly written memo, urged the City Council to buy the $14,971 radar trailer.
“It has been found that when the speed awareness of motorists increases that speeds are decreased,” the memo said. “These trailers are also capable of taking traffic volumes and performing radar speed surveys.”
