The Los Angeles Philharmonic is sponsoring two competitions for young Southern California musicians. String players 17 or younger may apply for the Bronislaw Kaper Awards, ranging from $500 to $2,500. Auditions are April 8 and 9 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. Deadline to apply is March 24.
Instrumentalists 16 to 30 years old from the African American, Asian American and Latino communities may apply for the Philharmonic Fellowships for Excellence in Diversity. Awards range from $500 to $2,000. Auditions on May 19 are limited to the standard symphonic instrumentation. No pianists, conductors or vocalists may apply. Deadline for application is April 14.
