MALIBU : 3 Houses Damaged by Weekend Slides Condemned

Share

Three homes have been condemned and another deemed safe for only limited entry after they were damaged by mud and rock slides unleashed by the weekend’s punishing rains.

Two of the condemned houses slipped about a foot off their foundations after a deluge caused 13 acres along Rambla Pacifico Road to plunge five feet, creating a steep fissure in the roadway. Donna Guyovich, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, said crews were working Tuesday to keep Rambla Pacifico open and to repair a water main in the hilly area, an unincorporated part of the county.

A house along Pena Creek above Pacific Coast Highway was condemned after it was destroyed by an onslaught of mud and rock. Another, a beach house in the 19300 block of Pacific Coast Highway, was determined safe for limited entry after a mud flow tore away its driveway, leaving it standing on beach pilings.
