A man severely beaten during a private party at the El Rey Theater after the Soul Train Music Awards died Tuesday of his injuries, Los Angeles police said.

Officers cleared the theater following the 1:15 a.m. fight, in which Kelly Jamerson, 28, was knocked to the floor, then was kicked and stomped by several unidentified people, said police spokeswoman Sandra Castello.

No arrests have been made.

Jamerson was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was kept on life-support systems until about 12:45 p.m., Castello said.

Several hundred people, including rapper Snoop Doggy Dog, attended the “after party” sponsored by Death Row Records at the El Rey Theater and Nightclub, in the 5500 block of Wilshire Boulevard.

“There was a dispute and a fight broke out,” said Los Angeles Police Sgt. John Sherman of the Wilshire station.

Further details were not immediately available.
