COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Mission Gets Pierced by 13 Runs in Ninth, 23-9

Pierce College scored 13 runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a 23-9 Western State Conference South Division baseball victory over Mission on Friday.

Cesar Martinez had three of the 20 hits collected by the Brahmas (10-11, 6-1), including a triple and two doubles, and drove in two runs.

The Free Spirit (4-17, 0-7) was looking to knock off the first-place Brahmas and held a 9-5 advantage going to the seventh inning, but gave Pierce all the help it needed with seven errors.

Moorpark 9, Santa Barbara 1--Chris Devlin (5-0) struck out 12 and didn’t give up an earned run for the Raiders (14-6, 4-2) in a WSC North Division victory at Santa Barbara.

Britten Pond singled, doubled and tripled for Moorpark, and drove in three runs.

Pat Queenan added a pair of hits for the Raiders and drove in a run.

Lewis-Clark 11, The Master’s 2--The Mustangs (10-8) were held to four hits, including doubles by Matt Henzie and Jim Young.

Ryan Dowhower surrendered nine runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings, with seven strikeouts and three walks.

John McAninch doubled and homered for Lewis-Clark, which finished with five doubles.

Jack Gullard (4-0) struck out 11 batters and walked two in eight innings.

SOFTBALL

Moorpark 8, Santa Monica 1--Heather Pierskalla and Dayna Skinner hit home runs to carry the Raiders (6-7, 3-0) past the Corsairs (0-3) for a WSC victory at Santa Monica.

Pierskalla hit a three-run homer in the first inning.

Skinner added a two-run homer in the second inning, one of her two hits.

Shannon Stanovich was replaced on the mound by Monique Jimenez in the third for the Corsairs.

Jimenez allowed only one run but permitted Holly Bennett’s four stolen bases.

Bennett, who had two hits, scored in the sixth inning on a single by Liz Lopez after stealing two bases.

Jeanne Underwood had the only extra-base hit for the Corsairs with a double.
