Share

A group hoping to build a community playground near Blanche Reynolds School in Ventura has raised just half of the $100,000 needed to get the project off the ground.

Organizers of the Rainbow Bridge Community Playground project have received about $25,000 in cash and $25,000 in donated materials, said Lori Z, a spokeswoman.

To raise more money, the group is holding a children’s bowl-a-thon Sunday. The fund-raiser will take place from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Buena Lanes in Ventura.

Students will raise money by getting pledges for the number of games they play, the spokeswoman said. To sponsor a child or to donate money or materials to the project, call 1-800-453-5334, ext. 206, or 641-5409.

Construction of the 10,000-square-foot playground is scheduled to take place over five days, beginning April 19.

Volunteers are needed to help with construction, serve food, take care of children or other tasks.
