Workshops Focus on Alzheimer’s Disease

The Alzheimer’s Assn. of Orange County will hold a series of workshops intended to educate and assist families caring for relatives with Alzheimer’s disease.

The first of the workshops will be March 30 at 3 p.m. at the chapter’s office, 2540 N. Santiago Blvd. in Orange. A lawyer, Jeanette Marmo, will talk about powers of attorney, conservatorship, legal planning and living trusts.

IRVINE

Nominees Sought for Senior of the Year

Officials are looking for nominations for the 1995 Irvine Senior of the Year Award.

All Irvine residents age 55 or older are eligible to nominate one person.

Nominees will be accepted through April 7.

Nominees don’t have to be residents of Irvine but they must be at least 55 and must have contributed to senior citizen activities or services in Irvine. The award will be presented at the first anniversary celebration of the Lakeview Senior Center on April 28. Information: (714) 724-6900 or (714) 724-6800.

Physical Therapy Clinic Now Open

The Villa Valencia retirement community has a new rehabilitation clinic that is open to the public. The clinic offers physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.

SEAL BEACH

Free Tax Filing Aid for Senior Citizens

Free income tax assistance is available for taxpayers age 60 and older at the Seal Beach Senior Center.

Tax returns are prepared by volunteers trained by the Internal Revenue Service’s Tax Counseling for the Elderly program.

Assistance is available from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through April 3. Senior citizens should bring their prior year’s tax return and Social Security form 1099-SSA. They should also bring all current forms received from tax agencies.

The IRS-trained volunteers are not allowed to prepare tax returns for businesses, rental properties or limited partnership distribution. Information: (310) 431-2527.

Donations Sought for the Homeless

Blankets, hats, jackets, sweaters and other donations for the homeless are being collected at the Oasis Multipurpose Senior Citizens Center.
