CASTAWAY?: For the past dozen years, no one seemed to notice Albert Weinmann. . . . He lived rent-free in the crumbling Lopez Adobe in San Fernando, where he kept watch (B1). But then the Northridge earthquake struck, and city officials pondered restoring the adobe. . . . And their plans didn’t include Weinmann.

MORE QUAKE: A second fault may have played a role in the Northridge quake, some geologists believe (B6). . . . New data shows that ground in an area between Tarzana and Encino shook in an east-to-west direction. But the known fault involved in the quake suggests that motion should have had a north-south orientation.

CHANGING JOBS: Bob Burt, the winningest football coach in Cal State Northridge history, resigned Wednesday to become football coach at Temescal Canyon High in Lake Elsinore (C1). Burt, 53, above, had a nine-year record of 49-46 at CSUN, but his last winning season was 1990. . . . His resignation comes after CSUN students passed a fee referendum that staved off the elimination of football and several other sports. He described the impending change of scenery as “good for me, and it’s going to be good for the kids I leave behind.”

BLUE RECRUITS: Willie Williams isn’t looking for a few good women. He’s looking for a lot of them. . . . Only about 16% of Los Angeles Police Department officers are female, far below the goal of 43.5%. So the department will hold a hiring expo Saturday in Sun Valley (B3).

PORN SOARS: Forget the Lion King. Porn is the real video king. . . . Adult Video News magazine says adult video sales claimed 27.5% of the U. S. video market in 1994, up nearly 6% from 1993. Many adult films are shot in the San Fernando Valley, luring actresses like Jeanna Fine from her home in San Diego. “I’m up there three or four times a week,” Fine said. “I’m there so much, I just ride the train.”
