Calender Goes to the Oscars : And Many Went Home Empty Handed

It wasn’t anything like the shutouts for “The Color Purple” and “The Turning Point,” both of which hold the distinction of receiving 11 nominations and no wins.

But that was small consolation to the nominees for such films as “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Quiz Show,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Red,” “Little Women,” “Interview With the Vampire” and “Nobody’s Fool,” who all went home empty-handed Monday night.

Multiple nominees all, prizes eluded these seven films, the first three of which were best picture nominees.

“Shawshank” was the most neglected film, coming away zero for seven. “Bullets Over Broadway” and “Pulp Fiction” only won one award from among their seven nominations, although they were major ones: best supporting actress (Dianne Wiest) and best original screenplay (Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary), respectively.
