BASEBALL FEVER: Radio stations that will broadcast replacement-player baseball games are facing the prospect of falling ad revenues (D1). . . . In something of a preemptive strike, Ventura’s KVEN is polling listeners to see if they’ll tune in. Emotions run high on both sides, said station general manager David Loe. In a recorded message, caller Steve from Oxnard expounded: “I will be supporting the Dodgers by not watching or supporting any scab baseball.” KVEN--obligated by contract to broadcast the Dodgers--airs an exhibition game between the Dodgers and the Angels tonight at 7.

ALLERGY FEVER: Heavy rains, robust wildflower growth and even the Northridge earthquake are being blamed for creating a witches’ brew of pollen-laden air (B1). And allergy sufferers are heading in droves for the antihistamine sections of their local drugstores. . . . At the Ojai Village Pharmacy, sales of anti-allergy medications are way up. In the last two weeks, “there’s been a 100% increase,” said store manager Stan Lazarus.

DANCE FEVER: Folks at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza are kicking up their heels because the venue was chosen for the world premiere of the intriguingly titled piece, “Greta in the Ditch,” to be performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov’s dance company. . . . Misha himself will grace the stage for the April 26 engagement. “It’s our first world premiere, and we’re very excited,” said Arts Plaza theater director Tom Mitze. Baryshnikov’s company, the White Oaks Dance Ensemble, will perform April 25 and 26--and tickets are still available.

TAX FEVER: Talk about fortuitous timing. . . . Republican Assemblymen Nao Takasugi of Oxnard and Jim Morrissey of Santa Ana have teamed in an effort to make tax time less painful for small-business owners (A3). . . . Their proposed law would penalize the state at an interest rate of 11% when it returns overpaid sums to businesses--the same rate businesses are charged for submitting late taxes to the state.
