A Racy Life in the Fast Lane
Grant Show, Jason Priestley, Matt LeBlanc, Vince Neil and Anthony Edwards are all familiar with life in the fast lane.
But these and other celebrities will see how they do at speeds of more than 100 m.p.h. behind the wheel of a Toyota Celica GT lift-back at the Pro-Celebrity Race on Saturday. The event is a prelude for the big race Sunday, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, in which professional drivers race through the streets of Long Beach.
Celebrities also can be seen in practice and qualifying rounds Friday at 4 p.m. Last year’s celebrity race winner, Alfonso Ribiero (“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”), will be back to defend his title. Two women celebrity drivers who will flex their gas pedals in the race are Cameron Diaz (“The Mask”) and Helene Udy (“Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”).
The cost for a ticket to both qualifying rounds Friday-Saturday, which includes the celebrity race, is $22; an all-weekend pass is $35. Sunday’s race only is also $35. Tickets through Ticketmaster or (310) 436-9953.
Nearby on the Queen Mary, a 21-and-older party for racing fans will feature the Justice Band, 8 p.m.-midnight, and deejay Charlie Tuna, 8-10 p.m. Line-dance lessons, food stations. $10. Free Route C shuttle from around downtown Long Beach. (310) 435-3511.
