BUENA PARK : Council Eases Limit on Business Signs
- Share via
Businesses may now keep temporary signs and banners hanging for as long as 90 days without violating the city’s sign ordinance.
The City Council gave final approval to a code amendment that lengthens the period, previously 30 days, during which companies may display signs advertising sales and other events.
The amendment was proposed by Councilwoman Patsy Marshall in January. Marshall told her colleagues that many small-business owners had complained to her while she was campaigning last fall about the short time allowed for temporary signs.
The five council members agreed that small businesses face tough economic times and that officials who enforce the law are stretched thin.
They sent the proposal to the Planning Commission for consideration.
Commission members unanimously agreed to the amendment in a 7-0 vote after a public hearing in February, and the council voted 5 to 0 for final approval.
