COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Snow’s Late Double Lifts Long Beach

Casey Snow’s two-out double in the bottom of the ninth drove in Jason Minici from first base with the winning run to lead Long Beach State to a 3-2 victory over San Jose in a Big West Conference baseball game Thursday.

Scott Rivette pitched his second consecutive complete game, improving his record to 6-3. Will Skett had an RBI single and Nick Frank had an RBI groundout to tie the score, 2-2, in the bottom of the eighth for Long Beach (20-16-1, 7-3).

In other Big West Conference baseball:

Cal State Fullerton was leading Nevada Las Vegas, 6-4, when the game was suspended in the sixth inning because of high winds.

Las Vegas has the bases loaded with two outs when the game resumes at 6 tonight.

Mark Kotsay had a one-run double in the sixth and C.J. Ankrum hit a two-run double in the second for the Titans. Before the game was suspended, Titan pitcher Mark Chavez had come on to relieve Jon Ward.

In nonconference baseball:

Pacific Lutheran 8, Southern California College 6--Ila Borders pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on seven hits. Her record is 1-6. Danny Desmond had three hits and Matt Baxter had two doubles to lead Pacific Lutheran (14-6).

Concordia 6, Occidental 5--Trailing, 5-4, in the bottom of the ninth, Concordia scored two runs on RBI singles by Pete Kusel and Christopher Kindreich. Bret Waslefsky had three hits and Kusel and Kindreich each had two hits for Concordia.

Chapman 14, Menlo 5--Miguel Galaz went five for five and Colin Medeiros hit a grand slam for Chapman.

In Big West Conference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 5, Long Beach State 4--The Anteaters (3-14, 2-2) split their singles’ matches, 3-3, rallied behind their doubles team of Janet Johnson and Rachel Buenviaje. Johnson and Buenviaje lost the first set and trailed, 2-5, in the second, before rallying to win, 7-5, 7-6.
