An Ojai Valley woman accused of starving her infant daughter to death was indicted Tuesday on felony child abuse charges, said prosecutors who had sought to have Pamela Rother charged with murder.

Prosecutors had charged Rother, 31, with murder and felony child abuse. Two-month-old Rachael Catherine Rother died Feb. 22, although officials have not revealed the exact cause of death.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael K. Frawley said that prosecutors thought they had enough evidence to have Rother indicted on murder charges, but that the Ventura County Grand Jury disagreed.

“We didn’t change what we asked for,” Frawley said. “They just didn’t give us what we wanted.”

Rother, who is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, is scheduled to be arraigned today in Ventura County Superior Court.
