S. history teacher at Hale Middle School in Woodland Hills, Dick Dornan used to keep his students guessing whether he was a Republican or a Democrat. “What party I am isn’t important in the class,” Dornan said. IMPACT: As a college student, Irene Brennick (above) received child-care support that allowed her to earn her degree at Cal State Northridge. “As soon as I had day care, I had my life back,” Brennick said. . . . Some advocates for the poor say it will cut off the escape route for many, including welfare mothers (B1).
